As we come to the end of this term, it’s important to take a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks. The journey of a school term is much like running a race. There are moments of joy, times of challenge, and always, the sense of community that carries us through across the line!

2025 Enrolments
Principal’s Interviews for admission to LORDS in 2025 are well underway. Should you or anyone you know be interested in a LORDS education, please ensure an application is received by our Registrar as soon as possible. This is especially important for families looking to enrol siblings as we may have wait lists for some Year levels. A school tour may also be arranged by phoning the school. We are already planning for staffing, resources and Year-level structures for 2025.
If you know your child will not be attending LORDS in 2025, please notify our Registrar in writing as soon as possible and with consideration of the enrolment contractual obligations of providing at least one term’s notice in writing. This means for those students not returning in 2025, written notice should be received via email or letter by September 20, 2024. Thanks for your support with this.

Additionally, if you are planning to enrol a sibling or have family or friends looking for a place at LORDS in 2025, please submit an application via our website as soon as possible. You are most welcome to discuss any aspect of the enrolment process with our Registrar, Leisa Martin.

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as Student Leaders for 2025.

On Tuesday the 10th of September our Year 11 Sport and Recreation students attended an excursion to Stockyard Creek bushlands where they engaged in a bush orienteering course. This was a challenging course that required the students to navigate their way through quite dense bushland, across streams, and through unknown tracks. All groups finished the course and should be congratulated on their determination and persistence.

As part of the Year 10 HPE curriculum, students created and presented a health promotion campaign targeted at young people and their health concerns. We had some very creative groups with engaging activities, videos, pamphlets, and stickers all created by the students themselves. Our Year 7 students were invited to the event and found the experience engaging and fun.

The local performing arts studio SonyQ Edge is presenting Jersey Boys the Musical during the school holidays. This is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and includes many of their greatest hits.

A LORDS graduate from 2023, Alannah Eyerich, is involved in this production that promises to be an outstanding piece of entertainment. Bookings available through the link below.

During the week, our Year 8 and 9 Music class, Be A Star, visited Highway Church for a workshop with a sound and lighting industry expert. The church uses up-to-date pro-series equipment to handle the wide variety of events they host, and students were introduced to the inner workings of this system. They had the opportunity to ask questions and even had a go at patching in the onstage instruments to the main sound desk.

I would like to thank Highway Church and Ricky Brown for giving our students this experience and I look forward to seeing some of these students engage with them in the not-too-distant future.

In Year 9 Christian Studies students have been learning about the issue of Homelessness. As part of their learning, they are exploring ways that they can honour the innate dignity of these people and make a difference in the world.

One way they are doing this is by bravely taking part in Orange Sky’s Sudsy Challenge in the last week of term. Our Year 9’s and some of our staff will bravely be 'keeping their kits on' for the last 3 days of Term 3. We are so proud of them for this and blown away by the fundraising support they have received! Our community is amazing!

Leading up to Street Retreat our Year 9’s are also exploring ways they can source some much-needed items to give to agencies supporting homelessness that they will be connecting with on Street Retreat, particularly St Vincent’s De Paul. We know our LORDS community has a big heart and we would love for them to get behind this cause. Together we can inspire great humans and make a difference in the lives of those doing it tough.

One Trendy Foods class was fortunate to have a demonstration of Indigenous foods and flavours, presented by Kara from Kuppibunda Kitchen, mentor for the Gateway to Industry Schools Tourism & Hospitality Program. Kara showed students many different fresh indigenous ingredients, most of which students had never experienced before. Students then worked with Kara to produce several recipes featuring rosellas, bush tomatoes, native raspberries, wattleseed, native herbs, kangaroo, and more.
Such an amazing opportunity for students to have this hands-on experience, challenging them to step outside their comfort zone with foods and try something different!

Well, it's that time of year when universities are starting to make early offers to our Year 12s.
The first offer of the year has been made to Charlie S.
Charlie has accepted his offer into the Bachelor of Exercise Science at Griffith University.

Secondary School welcomed guest speaker, Brett Lee, who gave an Internet Safety Presentation to our students. The intention was not to scare them, but instead prepare them for situations, hopefully before they may eventuate.
They learned about how the internet can be a very positive and safe place but that sometimes poor choices can lead to unsafe behaviour that can hurt themselves or others.

His goal was to prepare the students with the knowledge and skills to act protectively for themselves, their friends, and families. Through stories, Brett encouraged them to think of the internet as a real world and understand that their online choices will impact their physical world.

Brett's background in law enforcement and his understanding of the digital world taught students how important it is for them to think about their actions and behaviour online.

Our Pathways students, Ella and Macka, took a train ride to Robina to mingle with representatives from the growing tourism and hospitality industry. They toured Cbus stadium before making a chocolate tart and pineapple mocktail as part of the day's activities.

Our Year 11 Chemistry students are currently investigating acids and bases as part of their Unit 2 studies. Recently they performed titrations to look at neutralisation of acids and bases and the use of indicators. Our budding scientists, Cohen, Jelena, and Katey, worked diligently to monitor and record their result.

In preparation for our upcoming Mediterranean degustation parent dinner, Year 12 students were fortunate to experience a shared Mediterranean and Middle Eastern banquet. The different methods of preparation, combination of flavours, and unique dishes have broadened students’ experience greatly. Students were very adventurous, trying foods and flavours that were new to them. Special thanks to Gagik and team at Mecca Bah Hope Island who were so welcoming and really went above and beyond, treating us like VIPs.

We are excited to share highlights from our recent Year 6 trip to Canberra, which was filled with educational and memorable experiences. Students from our Year 6 classes, Mr Steinhardt, Ms Hogbin, Mrs Fry, Mrs Alcock, Chappy Jeremy, and Mrs Ludcke returned from the LORDS tour of Canberra last week. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs over 4 days and 3 nights, with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.

Our adventure began very early on Monday the 2nd September when students had to leave LORDS by bus at 5:15am to the Brisbane Airport by bus. We then had a flight from Brisbane to Canberra, where students experienced the thrill of air travel and the anticipation of exploring the nation's capital.

Day 1 - Once in Canberra, the students immersed themselves in art and culture with a visit to the National Gallery of Australia, home to an impressive collection of Australian and international art. They gained insights into Australia’s democratic processes at the National Electoral Education Centre and explored the significant Reconciliation Place, which promotes understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. After a huge first day, we went back to the accommodation at 6:45pm for our dinner and to get settled into our accommodation.

Day 2 – Our second day in Canberra started with a chilly morning at the National Arboretum in Canberra. Students explored a diverse collection of trees and enjoyed stunning views from this expansive site. They were lucky enough to participate in an orienteering activity which allowed them to explore many different trees and plants in the area. We then drove through Embassy Drive which showcased the diplomatic heart of Canberra, giving students a glimpse into international relations. We visited Old Parliament House, which offered a look into Australia’s political past. At Questacon, students enjoyed hands-on science learning through its interactive exhibits. The National Museum of Australia took the students on a journey through Australia’s history and culture. We travelled back to our accommodation for dinner before going out again. A special night tour of the Australian National Botanic Gardens revealed the beauty and diversity of Australian flora in a unique setting. Then it was straight to bed as it had been another long day.

Day 3 – Our third day in Canberra started nice and early again. At Parliament House we arrived early, so we went up to the roof and looked out over Canberra. Students then toured the iconic building, including seeing Parliament House in Lego, while they also gained insights into the workings of Australia's government, including a closer look at the Senate and House of Representatives to understand how legislation is made. The Royal Australian Mint visit educated students about coin production and the history behind Australia’s currency. A trip to the National Zoo and Aquarium allowed students to see and learn about a wide range of Australian and exotic animals. It was then back to the accommodation for our final night of rest.

Day 4 - The final day in Canberra was an early start with packing up everything and having an early breakfast. We then made the journey to the world-class facilities at the Australian Institute of Sport and learned about high-performance training in various sports. Students were able to play in the Vortex room and experience some of the training techniques that Australian athletes use. A visit to the Australian War Memorial honoured and educated students about Australia’s military history and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. They enjoyed stunning panoramic views of Canberra from Mount Ainslie Lookout, appreciating the city’s layout and natural beauty as the final destination of the Canberra Tour.

Throughout the trip, we stayed at the Ibis Styles Eaglehawk accommodation. Students enjoyed a comfortable and restful environment while staying here.

After a fantastic time in Canberra, we embarked on a bus trip from Canberra to Sydney, reflecting on the rich experiences and knowledge gained during our visit. We had a picturesque lunch at Lake George on the final trip back to Sydney. We also had a comfort stop on the way home and a play in the playground.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed to funding to our school under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school.

We are confident that this trip was both educational and enjoyable, leaving students with lasting memories and a deeper understanding of Australia’s heritage and institutions. We were so proud of the students in the way they conducted themselves throughout the trip. They represented themselves, their families and our school beautifully.

We look forward with anticipation to next year’s Canberra experience.

On 2 September 2024 five of our Year 5 students and nine of our Year 4 students participated in the AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition.

Congratulations to Lucy L, Kunjal K, Josie W, Thea R, Macey Ch, Adepa K, Olivia J, Georgia C, and Alice C (Year 4) on receiving Participation Certificates. Kamea WI was also an active participant in this year’s Public Speaking Club. The students worked extremely diligently throughout Term 2 and 3 and the confidence they displayed and the commitment they demonstrated was significant.

Congratulations to Anvit G, Arushi K, Blake R, Dawson S, and Yashasvi Y, who all spoke with confidence and conviction. They all received a Participation certificate while Dawson was placed in his heat and presented at the semi-finals.

On Thursday morning, parents of our Junior String Ensemble musicians were invited to come and enjoy a demonstration from the group, of the great work they have done this year under the direction of Mrs Coles. Parents were able to see how students prepare to play so they can help when they are practicing at home.

After hearing a couple of the pieces, the group is preparing for the Junior Soiree next term, the parents had an opportunity to play the violins themselves. The students were excited to teach the adults, and everyone enjoyed a chance to have some fun playing together.

Last Friday, Gareth Cohen delivered workshops to all our students in Years 4 and 5. They had an amazing time learning about traditional djembe rhythms, techniques, and songs. Thanks for visiting us Gareth!

Congratulations to LORDS Lillies for their outstanding grand final win  (winning 20 -11). The girls showed passion, skill, determination , excellent sportspersonship, and great teamwork. 

It was terrific to have supporters encouraging from the sidelines. Thanks to Fiona Smith and team for mentoring the girls throughout the season.

Prep to Year 2 students brought the world to LORDS with our incredible Mini Olympic event!

It was truly awesome to see our young athletes come dressed in the colours and costumes of their chosen countries, proudly representing Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, USA, Scotland, and France.

The spirit and energy on the field were simply amazing, with everyone giving their all in every event. From the smiles on their faces to the cheers from the crowd, it was a day filled with fun, teamwork, and a whole lot of energy.

A huge thank you to all the parents and teachers who helped make this day so special.

A gymnastics champion in Year 3! Harper P competed in the Gold Coast Gymnastics Club Championships on Sunday 8th September. Harper placed 1st in Beam, 3rd in Floor, and placed 7th in the combined Beam, Floor, Bars, and Vault.
We are so proud of you Harper, well done!

SPORT ATHLETICS - REGIONALS

Congratulations to Max C in Year 8 who has been competing, along with 8 other LORDS athletes, at the Regional Track and Field Championships.

Max raced the 400m, 800m, and 1500m events and has qualified for the Qld State Championships in the 800m and 1500m, coming 3rd and 1st in these events respectfully.

This is an awesome achievement by Max. The LORDS Community is very proud of you and all the athletes who represented LORDS and Pacific Districts at the Regionals.
