Today we celebrate World Staff Day at LORDS, we reflect on the many roles each of our teaching and non-teaching play in our community. Whether teaching in classrooms, supporting students, guiding them through challenges, or working behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of our school, all staff are integral to the LORDS community.

In 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, Paul writes:

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”

This bible verse reminds us of the wonderful diversity of gifts within our community. Each person brings their unique strengths and contributions, and together, we form a body of care, wisdom, and support for our students and one another. Whether nurturing young minds, creating a safe and welcoming space, or working tirelessly to support our vision, their work reflects God’s love in action.

Today, we give thanks for the dedication, passion, and love that each staff member pours into their work.

LORDS CELEBRATES was a wonderful celebration of the fine achievements of our students in the Secondary School. Our musicians, singers, award recipients, student presenters, and Year 12 graduates represented themselves and our community so well.

We gave thanks for the many and varied ways that God continues to bless our community. It was terrific to hear from three past students (Alex Wells, Emma Quinn, and Harrison Jaensch) about how their time at LORDS has shaped and formed them as young people beyond the school gates.

Thanks to staff, families, students, and community representatives for supporting this important event in the life of the LORDS Community. We are the Lord’s.

At LORDS we strive to provide opportunities for our students to learn and serve with head, hands & heart and encourage them to consider how they would like to make a positive difference in their world. This Semester our Year 9’s have participated in Service Learning in their Christian Studies program, culminating in their Street Retreat experience in Brisbane City. This learning allowed our students to build a deep understanding of homelessness, and empathy for those experiencing it. It gave them opportunities to connect with and serve a variety of agencies in the community including:

Vinnies QLD - with the generous support of our community, we were able to provide much-needed consumables for people doing it tough in our local Pimpama area and $271.90 from our Pyjama Day.

Micah Projects - students had the opportunity to learn from the Micah Team and support them by purchasing a tasty lunch from their Hope Street Café. Check them out next time you are in the City- it was delicious!

St John's Cathedral, Brisbane - with the generous support of OMF Australia we were able to provide 20 pillows for those sleeping rough in Brisbane City.
Our new local Pimpama Lifeline Shops Queensland where our students learned about the importance of a circular economy & sustainable fashion. They also had the opportunity to serve in-store by colour-coding clothing and participate in a $10 Challenge.

Learning and serving with heads, hands, and heart is relevant, impactful, and can be fun!

Our Year 12 students have made the most of their final days at school with some exciting celebrations!

Last week it all started.....

Monday, they enjoyed a delicious Subway lunch, dressed up as their favourite Movie Stars, and spent quality time with their Year 1 buddies. It was a day filled with fun, and special moments shared with their younger friends.

On Tuesday, the celebrations continued with a special breakfast, followed by creative costumes where students dressed up as who they wanted to be when they grow up. It was inspiring to see their dreams come to life!

What a fantastic way to celebrate their school journey—full of friendship, fun, and bright futures ahead!

Our Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed our annual Body, Mind, and Soul Day during week 4. Students engaged in a range of activities exploring online safety, managing interpersonal relationships the changes that take place in our bodies as we reach our teenage years, and how we can fuel our bodies with the right food and exercise to keep us fit and healthy. The Year 6 students had the great opportunity to meet some of the high school team while the Year 5 students enjoyed a collaborative games session. Thank you so much to those who contributed to making this a wonderful day.

Four of our Year 6 students – Cara, Azra, Katy, and Erika – have used the skills they’ve learned over the past two years to start an entrepreneurial business called CAKE Bracelet Bliss.

What began as selling their handmade creations to friends at school has quickly expanded, and this past weekend, the girls held their very first market stall with great success. The local community came out to support them, and their bravery and confidence in engaging with customers, many of whom they had never met, was truly inspiring. A nervous start turned into a very successful day for the girls!

  The girls have applied the business skills they learned last year, working out costs, calculating profit margins, and setting prices. They are now expanding their business, and their next market stall will be on Saturday, 2nd November at The Helensvale Farmers Market, located at Helensvale State High, from 6am to 11am. They are also planning to start an online store soon, which will further extend their reach.
  
  This is a wonderful achievement for these young entrepreneurs, and their hard work, creativity, and business acumen are a credit to the skills and values instilled at our school. We hope the LORDS community can come out and show their support for these inspiring young business owners!

During September, Friends of LORDS (FOLS) and Little Wonders Kindergarten Committee joined forces to raise some funds for our departments.

Thank you kindly to all involved and everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts.
The money raised for LORDS Little Wonders Kindergarten will be used to continue our build of the outdoor space.
A well-planned vegetable garden will be built on the side of the outdoor space where we will engage children with hands-on learning about sustainable living and growing our own fruit and vegetables.

On Friday, 11th October, Year 5 participated in our annual Leadership Day, hosted by Lutheran Youth of Queensland (LYQ) within the LORDS COLA. The day centred on the mantra, “community success results in personal successes,” encouraging students to support each other through a variety of tasks and challenges that tested their skills. Since not everyone could be there, we wanted to share the highlights of the day with the LORDS community!

We commenced the morning with several team games. First was ‘44 Home,’ which highlighted the cohort's ability to guide each other to the ‘safe zones’ while also testing Mr Lemckert’s cardiovascular endurance! This was followed by ‘Group Up’ and a task to create a unique team flag with students they don’t usually spend time within the classroom or on the playground. These activities emphasised the importance of working together towards a shared goal, discussing different ideas, and supporting teammates.

After morning tea, we spent time reflecting on leadership and what that looks like at LORDS. Students discussed what makes a good leader and identified leadership qualities they observed in Year 5. These qualities included supporting others, hearing different opinions, working with people beyond our friend group, checking in on someone who seems upset, and seeking adult help when needed. It was a valuable opportunity for students to think about their own roles within the school community, particularly as they prepare to move into Year 6.

Following the reflection, students worked in teams to create a game that reflected the importance of ‘community success resulting in personal success’. These games were then presented to the entire cohort in a ‘Shark Tank’-inspired pitch. Some ideas included a game where items were moved down half-pipes, requiring teamwork for a safe passage; an adaptation of hockey using foam noodles, where the prize was an ex-squid-site octopus; and a ball game testing players’ ability to score a ‘hole in one’ from a distance. These were all fantastic ideas, and the Year 5 teachers were unable to "chews" their favourite! Miss Pejovic played the role of one of the sharks and asked some very thoughtful questions, challenging the students to reflect on how their games could be improved for the future. Mrs Lekalake and Mr Lemckert thought all the pitches were jaw-some!

Looking ahead, we hope all Year 5 students enjoyed the day. In the classroom, the cohort will continue to build on these lessons to further support their development as young leaders within our community. On behalf of the Year 5 teachers, we are incredibly proud of how our students presented themselves – they were a standout bunch, with many leaders showing off their skills.

A message to LYQ

A big thank you to Isaiah and the team from Lutheran Youth of Queensland for organising such an enjoyable day (and to Mrs Hoff for saving their voices with a microphone!). The team gelled with the cohort instantly, creating a space where every student was able to work together throughout the activities. As teachers, we look forward to seeing these leadership lessons put into practice as our Year 5 students embark on their journey into Year 6.

If you were to move or flee to another country what would be some challenges that you would face? This semester Year 6 has been building empathy towards refugees by trying to understand from their perspective. As part of their learning, our students have written their own refugee stories. Thank you to our generous community who purchased their children's stories. We will be donating the money to charity. We hope you enjoyed the event last week.

Our youngest students hit the pool last week to learn to swim.
The 3 Prep classes were so excited on their trips to the Pimpama Sports Hub pool. It's so important that our young people learn this skill so they can confidently enter the water and be safe.

SPORT | Max C, a Year 8 student, represented 'South Coast' at the QLD State Track and Field Championships from October 11-14 at QSAC. Competing in the 800m and 1500m events, Max excelled by finishing 2nd in his 800m heat, qualifying for the Final, where he placed 7th overall. In the 1500m, he finished 13th out of 34 competitors, just missing qualifying for the Final.
Max displayed great determination and made his family and school proud. Well done, Max!

The Gold Coast Primary School Futsal Tournament was a remarkable event for LORDS, marking the largest participation in the school’s history with 9 teams and over 70 children. The students displayed exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day, making the school proud.

Highlights of the Day:

Semi-Finals: 4 of our teams advanced to the semi-finals, showcasing their skills and determination.

Grand Finals: 2 teams made it to the grand finals. The Under 9 boys played an intense match that went into extra time, ultimately finishing as runners-up. The Under 10 girls triumphed with a 4-2 victory, bringing home the championship.

Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and dedication. Your sportsmanship and team spirit were truly commendable!
Let’s continue to support and encourage our young Futsal Legends in their future endeavours. Go LORDS!
