A very big thank you to everyone for their support, prayers, and encouragement throughout 2022. It has been a challenging but rewarding year, and we have only been able to do it in collaboration with our families.  It has been a blessing and honour to walk alongside you as we together, continue to nurture our young people. We may have not got it right all of the time and for that, I ask for your forgiveness and thank you for your patience.

I’d like to thank all the teaching and non-teaching staff for the dedication and care they show to our students. Their hard work and passion for what they do is greatly appreciated.

And most importantly, a huge thank you to our students. They are the reason we all wake up in the morning and come to school. It has been a pleasure to see you progress and take on challenges throughout this year.

Last Week of School

A reminder that school finishes on Friday 2nd  December at 3.10pm. Students will be working and involved in end of year celebrations until (and including) the final day of term. Please ensure your child/ren attend school until the final day. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

School will start on Tuesday  24th January for all students. We will be having a student orientation session on Monday 23rd  January  as follows:

• Prep (8.30 am – 12noon)
  
• Year 1-6 ( 9.30- 10.30 am)
  
• Year 7 &11 (8.30am-12 noon)
  
• Year 8,9,10 &12 (11.00- 12noon)

During this time students will get to spend some time with their classmates and teacher. This will also allow students to bring stationery packs and know where their classroom is for the first day of school.

• That we can experience rest and safety over the holidays

Last Wednesday we celebrated the achievements of our Secondary School students and the graduation of our Senior Class of 2022 with a wonderful LORDS Celebrates. Highlights included beautiful music, singing, celebrating highlights of the year, and the fine achievements of our young people. It was also a terrific opportunity to acknowledge our 10th Anniversary. We are the Lord’s.

A crime wave has set upon LORDS – but don’t worry our Year 8/9 Forensic Science students, together with students from Prep, Years  1, 4, 5, and 6, worked together to solve the crimes and find the culprits! 

The students in our Forensic Science class have designed their own WhoDunnit cases, targeted towards a specific primary school class. In a massive WhoDunnit day on Monday, we had 150 primary school students attending: learning all about fingerprinting, chromatography, blood typing, and making shoe prints. A big thanks to our Year 11 students; Max, Bailee, Tyson, and Chloe, who helped with crowd control and some last-minute problem-solving! Great effort everyone!

On Tuesday 15th November, Ms. Hoff and Ms. Martin were proud to accompany Year 12 student Tahlia Zorbas to the 2022 Gold Coast Women in Business Awards, held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

Tahlia Z was a finalist in the 'Young Emerging Leaders' category. Tahlia walked through a series of initial applications and a rigorous interview with a panel of judges for what has become quite a prestigious and popular award for a young female student studying at a Gold Coast high school.

Tahlia achieved outstanding academic results at LORDS and has also been recognised by the Gold Coast Women in Business panel for her warm character and her contribution to the community through service.

Last week we farewelled our 2022 Seniors. There were tears, laughter, and cheers as we said goodbye to our graduates. It was wonderful to have family, friends, staff and fellow students share in this special occasion. Congratulations to the Class of 2022 for being such fine examples and role models. We wish you every blessing as you step out into the future, knowing you are loved and respected by the LORDS Community.

Molly Regazzoli is a Cadet at 11 ACU Logan Base and holds the Rank of Corporal. Molly is also a Year 10 student at LORDS.

On Saturday 19th November, the Australian Cadet Unit Call Sign 11 ACU Logan held its 40th-year Anniversary March Out Review. Australian Defence Force Dignitaries took salute review and later handed out The 2022 Cadet Awards.

CDTCPL Antonnella Regazzoli was awarded Cadet 2020 Shield Award and Beenleigh RSL Soldiers Award 2022.
The Soldiers Award is given to the Cadet who during their service to their Unit emphasizes the 3 Core Values of Australian Army Cadets, COURAGE, TEAMWORK, and INITIATIVE.

Another wonderful LORDS Celebrates was held this week. We celebrated the Junior School Years 4 to 6 and congratulated our Year 6 students on reaching their primary school milestone. It's off to Secondary School for these students in 2023. We also enjoyed some great musical performances by the Wakakirri group and school choirs and ensembles.

This term Year 5 has investigated light in Science and designed and built their own solar ovens in STEM. The students used data loggers to record the temperature inside their solar ovens, while they melted chocolate and toasted marshmallows. Happy S’mores day!

Last week our Year 3 and Year 5 students had their annual Market Day which was the culminating event for their Project Based Learning units. Year 3 students have been busy all semester learning about the challenges our farmers face in terms of drought and our Year 5 students have been busy learning about the challenges of living in another country, particularly Cambodia. After a successful market day, Year 3 will be donating approximately $860 to Lutheran Drought Aid and Year 5 will be donating approximately $700 to ALWS

Such a rich and authentic learning experience for all students involved.

Our Year 1 students enjoyed their Big Bang incursion on 15th November. Students participated in a range of hands-on experiments exploring how sound is made from vibrations and amplified by air. They used white light to make the colours of the rainbow and made ultra violet bracelets that changed colour in the sun. They got to strike, shake and scrape a range of instruments and play with different materials to explore light and colours.

Well done to all involved in the Junior School Swim Carnival. The was energy, enthusiasm, and great participation from all involved. Congratulations to all of our age champions.  As well a big congrats to Logan on being the house champions and Pimpama for winning the spirit trophy.

It was a great day at Pimpama Sports Hub for the Senior Swimming Carnival.

On 11th November our Year 11/12 Volleyball team suited up for one more friendly tournament at Rivermount College. The boys played well, winning 2 of their 3 games. More importantly, it has been great to give them this opportunity and see their development this year. They are a pleasure to coach and work with and take pride in themselves, their school, and each other. We wish them all the best on their future endeavours.

These last 2 weeks have been such a whirlwind with the Year 12s graduating.  What are lasting impressions for you?  You might have a son or daughter among them which adds to the emotional-pull.  I just love seeing the different personalities among the cohort – the quiet achievers; the lively extroverts; the creatives.  It takes all types to make the world go round for sure!  Dr Seuss got a mention during the assembly too which was fun.

I guess it follows my line of interest and work but I appreciated how carefully our student leaders wove the Scriptures into their speeches, including this one from the Proverbs.

‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.’  Proverbs 3:5-6

I don’t think our paths are ever really that straight, to be honest.  One interesting feature of School Reunions is noting how the lives of our school friends have taken many twists and turns over the years, some for the good, some for the not so good.  However,  I do believe that God ‘straight-ens’ the path as we lean on him.  I’ve been reading Watchman Nee again and finding spiritual nourishment.  He helps me with these sorts of spiritual life questions.  Are there any Watchman Nee devotees on campus?  Happy to exchange notes with you.

God straightens our path as we trust in him and lean not on our own understanding.  Letting go and letting God always brings spiritual reward.  Christian writer Andrew Murray talks at length about ‘surrender’ and ‘waiting on the Lord.’
