This week at LORDS, we remember and reflect on National Reconciliation Week , a special time when people all over Australia think about how we can walk together in friendship and respect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The theme this year is “Bridging Now to Next.” It reminds us that it’s important to keep working together and to build bridges from the past to a better future, where everyone is treated with fairness, kindness, and understanding.

In the Bible, we hear these powerful words:

“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

– Micah 6:8

This means God wants us to do what’s right, show love and kindness, and walk humbly - always learning and growing.

At LORDS, we can live this out by being respectful, by listening to others’ stories, and by helping build a community where all people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Every Day Counts - Why Attendance Matters

At LORDS, we know that a child’s learning journey is shaped not only by the quality of education they receive, but also by their consistency in attending school. We were excited to welcome a visiting Director from Queensland Theatre (Anthony Goole) to LORDS this week! As part of The Scene Project, our talented students had the incredible opportunity to work alongside a professional in the industry: learning, exploring, and growing in their performance skills.

This collaboration gave students a deeper understanding of theatre-making and brought the script to life in new and exciting ways. What a fantastic experience to be part of a statewide initiative that celebrates creativity, storytelling, and student voice! Our Drama students will be performing at the Queensland Theatre (in a professional setting) as part of The Scene Project early in Term 3. This is another unique opportunity for the students of LORDS.

Sharing Strength & Storytelling

We were honoured to welcome back LORDS 2021 School Captain Mackenzie Kohn at our Secondary School Wellbeing Assembly (he proudly wore his senior jersey).
Mackenzie shared his personal journey with honesty, heart, and hope — reminding us all of the importance of checking in with ourselves, reaching out to others, and making mental health a priority.

His story resonated with our students, showing that strength is found not in perfection, but in vulnerability, resilience, and staying connected.

Thank you, Mackenzie, for leading with courage and for being a voice of support and inspiration. The LORDS Community is proud of you and grateful for the impact you’re making.

Our Year 7 students visited Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre as part of their Biology unit on taxonomy and classification.
With curiosity and enthusiasm, they tested the quality of the freshwater pond and explored the Pimpama River ecosystem by canoe.

A highlight of the day was the discovery of a species of diving beetle in the pond; one that has not been seen for a long time, if ever. The friendly instructors were thrilled and have officially added the species to their records, crediting our students as the discoverers.

LORDS Health care program is in full swing.

LORDS partners with Strategix Training to deliver a Certificate II and III in health support services. These girls are the health services class of 2025; due to complete their studies in October.

PATHWAYS EVENING

Recently, we had an inspiring evening as we came together to support our Year 10 students in exploring their unique journeys into Year 11 and beyond. From ATAR to vocational pathways and everything in between, the message was clear—there are many ways to grow, learn, and thrive at LORDS.A huge thank you to our families for your presence, questions, and encouragement. When students, parents, and staff come together with a shared purpose, powerful things happen. Student reflections from the night:

Our Year 6 Reader’s Cup team competed at Hillcrest College on Wednesday night.

Reader’s Cup is a competition where students all read the same required 5 novels and then, as a team, answer questions about the books. The competition encourages the love of reading and helps students to discover books that they might not otherwise have read, but find they love! We were very proud of their efforts! Well done!

Eight of our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the da Vinci Decathlon on 20th May 2025, which was held at Brisbane Boys College. Our team was among 76 teams of Year 5 and 6 year groups from all over Queensland, with each team having 8 students.

The selected students committed to studying the ten key learning areas for 12 weeks during Terms 1 and 2.

There were 10 different learning areas: namely English, Maths, Science, Engineering, Art and Poetry, Legacy, Ideation, Code Breaking, Cartography, Creative Producers (Drama)

The students had to be Effective Communicators, Collaborators, and be Creative and Innovative as well as work out some extremely complicated scenarios. Thank you to Mr Gollan, Mrs Kinne, and Mr Blair for assisting the team.

The students worked extremely diligently, collaboratively, and communicated effectively with each other. This year's theme was “Light,” and all the papers were based on this aspect

On Monday 20th May, our Year 4 students were inspired by guest artist Daniel Evans, who led them through an incredible art experience. Each student created a piece of artwork that represented who they are and what’s important in their lives.

Using techniques such as cross-hatching, detailed line and dot work, and Indigenous symbols, students reflected on special places, animals, and the LORDS Ways that best represent them.

It was a day full of creativity, identity, and cultural connection—thank you, Daniel, for sharing your talents and inspiring our young artists!

It’s been a wonderfully full and vibrant fortnight in the Junior School, with so many exciting events taking place that reflect the heart of who we are as a community. As I’ve watched our students participate, lead, and grow, I’ve been reminded again and again of how beautifully they are living out the LORDS Ways in all they do

The Junior School Musical was a joyful celebration of courage, creativity, and collaboration. Our students demonstrated love for their craft, their peers, and their school community as they supported one another and took to the stage with confidence. Their performances were not only entertaining but also deeply affirming of their unique gifts.

Our students showed remarkable critical thinking and discipline as they competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon, Futsal Competition, and Athletics Carnival. Whether solving complex problems, defending a goal, or striving for a personal best on Athletics Day, they gave their best efforts with a growth mindset, honouring their teams and themselves.

During our Reconciliation Day activities, we witnessed powerful examples of service and creativity in action. Students engaged thoughtfully with Australia’s shared history, listened with empathy, and reflected on how we can all contribute to a more understanding and inclusive future. There were opportunities for students to plant native bush tucker plants, create amazing art works and interacting with indigenous sports games.

Across all these events, it’s clear that our students are being given rich and varied opportunities to develop their God given abilities. Whether on the stage, the field, or in the classroom, they are practicing the LORDS Ways in meaningful and memorable ways.

A heartfelt thank you to all the staff and families who make these opportunities possible. It’s your support, dedication, and encouragement that help our students grow into capable, compassionate, and confident learners.

Our Year 6 students made new connections as they enjoyed their first meet-up with their Year 7 buddies. Our first session was all about getting to know one another over a game of ‘Soup, Salad or Sandwich?’

The Buddy program is a powerful support for Year 6 students getting ready to transition into Secondary School, as regular sessions allow them to ask the important questions: “How do I organise my locker?” “What do you do at lunchtime in the Secondary School?” “How do you know what classes you have each day?” “How much homework do you have to do?”

The Year 7 students are very keen to share their wisdom with their Year 6 buddies, having successfully navigated their first term of Secondary School already.

On Monday, 26th May, 26 LORDS athletes headed to Rivermount College to compete in the Pacific Districts Cross Country—and what a day it was!

After the original event was washed out due to the course being under water, runners ended up racing on a tough, hilly course, in surprisingly hot conditions.

Few things make a Sports Coordinator prouder than watching students push themselves to their personal limits, with teammates backing them all the way. This is #LORDSpride.

There were plenty of standout efforts on the day, and we’re excited to share that 13 of our runners qualified for Regionals, earning a spot by finishing in the top 14 of their races. They’ll represent Pacific Districts at Runaway Bay on Tuesday, 3rd June.

Our first Interhouse Sports Showdown was a great way to wrap up a weather-affected Season 1, with strong house spirit, teamwork, and healthy competition on full display.

Congratulations to LOGAN House, who came out on top, followed by Pimpama and Albert.
Thanks to everyone who got involved and brought great energy to the day.

The boys' Basketball team played gallantly, comfortably winning their first match and the second by 3 points against Beenleigh before facing a strong Pimpama team.

Making the finals to play for a bronze, we came up against Beenleigh once again, only this time the boys fell short by 3 points in another close, hard-fought game.

Well played to all our Basketball players - we are very proud of you.

The Year 3–6 Athletics Carnival was held on Monday, 26th May, under clear skies and warm sunshine—an especially welcome change after weeks of wet weather. The day was a fantastic success, with high levels of student participation, incredible enthusiasm, and excellent behaviour throughout.

All students competed in the 100m, 200m, high jump, long jump, and shot put events. Many also chose to take on the extra challenge of the 400m and 800m races. It was a day full of energy, encouragement, and team spirit.

Congratulations to Pimpama, who took home the House Trophy, and to Albert, who was awarded the Spirit Cup for their outstanding display of sportsmanship and support.

A special mention goes to the nine students who broke records on the day—an incredible achievement!

Finally, congratulations to our Age Champions—your hard work and determination truly stood out.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and families who came along to cheer, support, on the day. Your involvement made a big difference and helped create a wonderful atmosphere for our students.

A big thank you to our amazing teaching staff for their organisation, enthusiasm, and support throughout the event. We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Arthur from Ultimate Athletics for his expert assistance, which helped the day run so smoothly.

Well done to all involved on an amazing carnival day!

A huge day of futsal for our 14s and 16s boys!

14s Blue Team – Our development squad played together for the first time and absolutely smashed expectations. They made it out of the group stage as the best-ranked 3rd team and faced the eventual champions in the quarterfinal. Gave it their all and walked away with heads held high .

14s Yellow Team – Kicked off against a strong Robina A side and went down 5-2, but we bounced back quickly and started turning heads. Had a few coaches ask, “Where did this team come from?”

We finished 2nd in the group and faced another Robina team in the quarterfinal. It was an intense 3-3 draw that went to extra time, then penalties, and we came out on top!

The semi-final was another tough match, and, after a massive effort, we couldn’t find the golden goal. The boys gave everything and left it all on the court. Super proud of their heart and fight. This team is building something special.

16s Team – Found themselves in a tough group with seasoned squads. While the results didn’t go our way, the team showed real resilience and took away a lot of valuable experience.

Shoutout to Chayse for stepping up and helping keep us competitive in every match.

Big thanks to all the teachers for your support throughout the 3 days — you were all awesome!

What a great Saturday for our Netball teams!

It was wonderful to see such great sportsmanship displayed across all games. From encouraging teammates to congratulating opponents, our players showed respect, teamwork, and the true spirit of the game. Whether it was a close match or a tough one, every team gave it their all with pride.

A big thank you goes to our dedicated scorers, team managers, and supporters. Your commitment to showing up each week makes a huge difference and helps everything run smoothly.

My name is Rebecca Pitt, and I am the new Woodwind Tutor at LORDS. I have lived on the Gold Coast since I was a teenager but have only recently moved to the Ormeau area. I am married and have 3 children. Our family worships at the Gateway Baptist Ormeau Campus. I have been teaching music in various roles for nearly 25 years. My roles have included teaching private instrumental lessons, band tutorials, music theory lessons, and classroom music. I have also worked in choral programs and taught secondary English, HASS, and Drama. I am passionate about music and love working with young people to help them learn and grow. I am excited to begin working in the band program here at LORDS, and I look forward to seeing how the students will grow and develop, both musically and personally.

Our Japanese friends from Kokushikan High School are very excited to join LORDS again this year for their homestay and we are now recruiting host families to make their time in Australia very special!

Would your family be willing to host a student and share your family lifestyle with them?

The Japanese students arrive on Monday, 21st July, and leave Sunday, 3rd August. They are aged between 14 and 17 years old and will attend classes at LORDS during their stay, as well as sightseeing in Brisbane city and on the Gold Coast.

As a host family, you will be asked to provide meals, transport to and from school, and a room for your homestay student. Members of your household must also apply for a Blue Card, if they are over 18 years old. (It is free, and LORDS can help with the process.)

You will receive a payment of $780 from International Student Services to assist with the cost of hosting a student.

LORDS held their first Messy Church hosted here at LORDS by the Alberton Lutheran Parish.

Participants enjoyed activities including making balloon party guests, decorating jewellery and party hats, and writing magnificent invitations.

After a time of celebration and reflection, the morning concluded with a small bite to eat shared by all.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and we look forward to seeing you for the next Messy Church on Sunday 15th June, where we’ll explore the theme of Pentecost!

School Office

Our office hours are between 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday with the exception of Public Holidays.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.
