Sadly, much of the world has now turned its back and forgotten these children. Australian Lutheran World Service is trying to help....
Through Walk My Way you can step out - your way - and help a Ukrainian child walk a new way – to safety, school, and someday back home.
Join us for a 3km or 12.5km walk along the iconic Brisbane River as we step out to support the people of Ukraine.
Every step that we take will be a reminder of the thousands of innocent civilian lives lost in the conflict… and every dollar that we raise will make a practical difference for children and families facing the tragedy of war.
Both walks will start and finish at a Community Hub… where traditional Ukrainian cuisine, cultural dance, and singing will give us a taste of Ukrainian culture. There will even be a special Kids Zone for children.
Whether you walk, run, or just come to enjoy the Community Hub … together we’ll send a special message of love and support from the heart of Brisbane to the people of Ukraine!

Our Year 7 students enjoyed a special visit from representatives of The Gideons International Australia last week. Tony, Karen, Sandra, and Mike shared their passion for distributing Bibles to schools, hotels, and businesses around Australia, and also in communities as far away as Mali in Africa. They also shared interesting facts about the Bible – for example, did you know it was the first book printed on a printing press? And that it has been translated into over 700 languages? Each Year 7 student was gifted a Bible to keep and shown how to use it to look up helpful Psalms and Proverbs for specific times of need.

Last week, a group of aspiring tradies ventured out to the building site of ‘Eve Apartments’ on the Gold Coast. While on-site, students tried their hands at tiling, plastering, painting, and carpentry. Students heard about the many roles people play in the construction industry and information about pathways that lead to employment. Immersing students in practical learning experiences and exposing them to industry helps spark ideas about the future and hopefully ignites passion within them to set their sights on achieving their personal and career goals.

As part of their classroom work, Year 7 students in Christian Studies were tasked with creating inner and outer self-portraits. We have some very creative students!

Thanks to families who came along to our very first parent Year 7 Connect Dinner at Whistlestop. It was a terrific opportunity for parents and staff to gather socially and get to know each other as we all venture on the Middle School journey together.

Rehearsals and preparations are well underway for our 2024 musical ‘Alice in Wonderland.’. It is amazing to see so many of our talented music, dance, visual arts, and drama students bringing this great family-friendly story to life. We are focusing on the theme of bringing joy to those who may feel alone, particularly in retirement villages during Easter.
Easter is a time of hope, renewal, and connection. By reaching out to those who may feel alone, we're embodying the true spirit of Easter—love and compassion.
After our visit to the retirement village; Tricare Pimpama, we learned that many residents do not have family or friends that come to visit and rely solely on the carers to offer that support for loneliness. We thought that sending messages to both the workers and the residents might help remind them that we as a community are thinking about them and that they are not alone during Easter. We have put together 2 Easter baskets of treats that we will send up with our cards.

Year 2 enjoyed their recent excursion to Hinze Dam, where they explored the history of a significant local site, as well as developed their understanding of the water-cycle. Students reflected on the importance of the dam and considered ways in which we can look after our water source.
Highlights of the day included:
• walking along the dam wall to look for the big ruler
• a photo near the Spillway
• Capacity Capers Water Relay
• A picnic in the park

Our young musicians in our Year 3 Strings Band took on each other in a Battle of the Bands today. As the photos show, some incredibly enthusiastic students were playing their hearts out! Our new Performing Arts Space is a great location for our music students to learn.

Melinda Coles is doing a great job of teaching and inspiring these students.

Last week Year 4 celebrated Harmony Week and explored how we are all diverse yet belong. We spent time in a yarning circle in our Indigenous garden and shared our ideas around belonging. We listened to each other’s thoughts around guided questions: What groups do we belong to? How can we make others feel like they belong? We learned to value our diversity.

The 80s are coming to the COLA! On Friday 26th April we will be getting our groove on from Prep to Year 6 at the very funky and fun JUNIOR SCHOOL DISCO. Lock this date in your diary. There will be Food Trucks: Black Sheep Brew & Chew Miss P Icecream, DJ Soul Fusion, Dance Performances, Prizes, and the very energetic Karizmatik Entertainment keeping everyone on the dancefloor for this very special event.
Prep - Year 2 will hit the floor from 4pm to 6pm, then Year 3 to Year 6 will dance into the night from 6pm to 8pm. There is a $3 cover charge per child (like all good discos in the 80s would charge!)

A message from our friends at St Vincent de Paul:

St. Vincent de Paul Conference, Upper Coomera believe as a society we could be servicing the areas of Pimpama, Coomera, and the southern parts of Ormeau, more efficiently than at present by setting up another conference in the area.

Our goals are to assist those people who are struggling with cost of living increases with food hampers, Ampol fuel, and Coles food cards plus St Vinnies cards for use in our shops.

We are appealing for new members to open another conference in the Pimpama, Coomera, and lower Ormeau districts, to aid those singles and families who desperately require assistance.
