Jesus Christ died for all, so all can have fullness of life, an abundance of life. We are reminded in the Bible so many times about who God says we are; this can empower us to keep living life to its fullest.

Leave Requests
Families are reminded that requests for leave need to be in writing to Mrs Hardke for students in Years Prep to 6 and Mrs Kinne for Years 7 to 12. We strongly encourage you to talk through your request for leave with the school before you go ahead and book or plan any activities.

There are certain times of the term that are not ideal for leave regarding the learning and teaching process and assessment. We understand that certain family circumstances may require leave (eg compassionate leave) and are understanding of these requests and will support families in these situations.

Term 3 Dates

Students will start Term 3 on Monday 8th July and finish on Thursday 12th September.

It has been wonderful to see our students engaging in so many activities throughout National Reconciliation Week. Special thanks to Justine Dillon and her team for planning culturally enriching opportunities for our students and staff to learn and grow in our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture, history, and story. Let’s continue to step into the future with open hearts willing to listen and heal.

We are so excited to be working with First Nations artist, Daniel Evans, on a community mural for National Reconciliation Week. Students and staff from across the school have contributed.

What does school lunch look like in Japan? The Year 8/9 Japanese class can tell you all about it after their Zoom session with Narakawa school!

The LORDS students introduced themselves and explained their lunch and fast-food preferences in Japanese. The Narakawa students then showed us a serving of their daily school lunch – vegetables, spaghetti, jelly, and milk!

The LORDS students wanted to know:
- Do you have to drink milk, or can you choose a different drink? (There is only milk.)
- Does the menu change often? (It changes every day.)
- Does everyone eat the same lunch? (Yes)
- What happens if a student has an allergy? (They have a different version of the lunch.)
It was a great opportunity to learn about every student’s favourite time of the day – lunchtime!

Last week was a wonderful celebration of community as we acknowledged the Foundation students and families of LORDS who have been part of LORDS from Prep – Year 12 (a first for LORDS). It was terrific to connect, share in memories and give thanks for the staff and families who started with us in 2012! 

On 23rd May, Year 11 and 12 students attended the LORDS "Launch Your Career' event. Students rotated around the room hearing from 10 different industry representatives. Students found out what 'a day in the life of' actually looks like, and asked brave questions like 'What's the pay like?'. After the event, many students commented about how insightful it was hearing career stories from people who didn't always know exactly what they wanted to do after Year 12.

Some students now have more career options to explore than they had previously considered. Real-life stories connecting students to 'possibilities' are so important as they move closer to making future career choices.

Let the countdown begin – only 100 days to go for our Year 12 students! We celebrated this very important milestone with a shared morning tea of lollies and delicious cakes, with Year 12 teachers dropping in to congratulate and encourage the students as they head towards the high school finish line. Ms Hoff also urged the students to reflect on the many and varied ways they have contributed to the growth of LORDS over their time here, whether for one year or twelve years.

For one special group of students, they were also visited by their very first teachers from the very first Prep class at LORDS – Mrs Carr (formerly Miss Humphrey) and Mrs Ward. It was lovely to see Mrs Carr and Mrs Ward catch up and enjoy time together with their ‘OG’ students – although they are a little taller than when they last taught them!

We wish our Year 12 cohort every blessing as they enjoy these last 100 days of school.

Our Year 10 PE Elective students are on fire with their latest learning adventures! Regular excursions to Nemesis Performance have become the highlight of their learning journey, focusing on energy systems and resistance training.

It has been incredible to see how they are embracing the challenge, pushing their limits, and stepping out of their comfort zones. The top-notch facilities at Nemesis Performance have become their playground, fostering not only physical strength but also resilience and teamwork. Kudos Year 10, it is great watching you all go from strength to strength.

Students in Crime Scene Investigators have been busy in the laboratory this term exploring different blood types. They examined the blood to determine if coagulation was present and to work out which suspect the blood might belong to. 

It was great to see our young people developing the LORDS Way 'I can be critical' by considering the information provided to help solve a problem.

Congratulations to our Year 9 students and their teachers (Mrs Chase and Mrs Lawrence) for their outstanding Pop-up World War I Museum held on Wednesday. Students in Year 5 &6 were able to view the displays during the day and then parents and friends came in the evening to celebrate our students’ exceptional work. Members from the local RSL also attended. Next year, selected student works will be on display at the Coomera Library. Students are to be congratulated on the high quality produced, creativity demonstrated, and well-researched curator written responses. It was an excellent showcase of learning.

Last week, a group of students in Years 10 and 11 attended the 2024 'Future Skills Summit' at BOND University on the Gold Coast. Students heard profound stories from keynote speakers who shared insight and wisdom about the rapidly changing workforce. Students learned it is likely the job they will have in the future, might not exist today, and similarly, the job they think they may like today, may not exist tomorrow.
The skills required for the future include resilience, adaptability, and the capacity to think critically in an ever-emerging space.

Students participated in hands-on workshops where they identified a problem, and applied problem-solving skills to design a potential solution. Other students worked on designing a new product or service for market entry.

LORDS continues to extend its partnership with industry to offer Senior Secondary students an opportunity to complete 'Entrepreneurship' qualifications involving regular interactive workshops fostering development of 21st-century skills.

Congratulations to Jenna S ( Year 8 ) for receiving a Highly Commended Award as Young Volunteer of the Year at the 2024 Forde Volunteer Awards, for her terrific work with Kids4Kids. She is a Junior Ambassador for the Kids4Kids Foundation and helps out during holidays and after school hours. This year she helped the foundation sort, count, and distribute over 55,000 school supplies to families in need. The foundation actually won the Community Organisation of the Year Award.

It is wonderful to see our students living out LORDS values of service and empathy in our community beyond the school gates. Well done, Jenna!

No need to get bored these holidays with so much to explore at TAFE QLD- Year 9-12 students!

Mrs Hardke and Mrs Smith had the great pleasure of joining our Year 5 students to make their fidget toys for students with additional needs. Throughout the Year 5 "Uniquely Able unit" students have learned about the needs of people who have a disability. The students have listened attentively to the needs of these people and are creating specific products to assist them. We all can't wait to see the finished products at our Junior School showcase on Wednesday afternoon.

Yesterday we had a very special guest join our Year 1 classes to do some work with our teachers and students learning about Play is the Way. Students participated in activities related to the Green Poster- Be Brave Participate to Progress. We learned the game Islands and worked through how to have a competition in a positive way and it being ok to lose and move on. We are very much looking forward to Mrs Zipf visiting us again soon!

This week a number of our Year 6 students travelled to Park Ridge State High School in Logan to participate in a Science and Engineering Challenge Day, hosted by Griffith University.
This exciting event allowed our students to compete in STEM-based activities with multiple schools throughout South East Queensland.
An amazing day was had by all!

Last week we celebrated the official opening of the new Little Wonders Kindergarten playground. It has been a lengthy journey from planning & researching how to create a space for the children to now. We wanted to respect the unique environment we are blessed with, creating a sustainable and natural learning space. We also planned to have our environment set as a third teacher right down to the plants being native to the area. The children are already excited to see our own Bush Tucker grow and thrive with them. We appreciate all the time and effort from planning, designing, building right to the end.
Uncle Allan Lena was also respectfully invited to help us with our opening by conducting a smoking ceremony. We look forward to more learning as our year extends.

Celebrating Success at the Kokoda Challenge Brisbane!
We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievement of our incredible staff and students at this year's Kokoda Challenge in Brisbane! LORDS proudly fielded 17 teams, with 2 teams tackling the 48km course, 6 teams conquering the 30km route, and 9 teams participating in the 18km distance. We are beyond proud to announce that all 60 of our students crossed the finish line, showcasing a phenomenal 100% success rate!

The determination and GRIT displayed by our students and staff were truly inspiring. The challenge was intensified by the weather conditions, particularly for our 30km and 48km teams, who braved the cold and darkness to complete their journey. Despite these hurdles, our teams pushed through with unwavering perseverance and a collective spirit that epitomises the Kokoda pillars.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the event. Their presence and encouragement were crucial in helping our students achieve this remarkable feat. We couldn't have done it without their commitment.

To every student who participated, your resilience and teamwork have made us incredibly proud. You have embodied the true spirit of Kokoda, and your success is a testament to your hard work and determination.

A very special thank you to Mr Brandon Bull for his outstanding leadership with Kokoda. His passion, mentoring, and commitment is so appreciated.

Junior School Athletics Carnival Recap: A Day of Energy, Enthusiasm, and Excellence!
On 28th May, our Junior School Athletics Carnival was a tremendous success, filled with positive energy and an incredible attitude from all our students. Everyone gave it their best, showing true sportsmanship and determination throughout the day.

LORDS had a record number of students participate at the South Coast Regional Cross Country event earlier this week. A massive congratulations to all of our runners on their efforts. Special recognition must go to Max C and Athena WI who finished 9th and 10th respectively, earning a reserve spot for the State Championships.
A MASSIVE congratulations goes to Harper B, who finished 3rd in his age category and will run at the State Championships later this year. Well done team!

It was fantastic to see the energy and enthusiasm from our Prep – Year 2 students during their “Pirates and Princesses Field Day.”

They had a blast playing themed activities and made the day look even better by getting into the spirit of the event with pirate and princess costumes.

A special mention must go to our Year 6 leaders who organised the activities and ran them with great enthusiasm and energy. It’s great when our Year 6 students can take on that leadership role.

Every year up to five CLWs take place throughout South-East and Central Queensland during the June-July and September- October School Holidays.  Each camp is run by a team of experienced and passionate leaders with stacks of fun planned for the week. 

Generally, the program will contain worship, small groups, games, various activities, and personal challenges, with individual camps taking on a unique flavour, dependent upon location, camp facilities, leadership team, and size of the camp. 

Check out our Winter Kids Camp Coolum for Year 3-6 which will run 26-30 June alongside first week CLW camps.

Christian Life Week (CLW) is a five-day camp for high school-aged students that is centred on an unforgettable experience of faith, friendship, and fun. CLW is a chance for teenagers to escape the everyday, have a stack of good clean fun, and discover more about what it means to be a Christian.
Registrations open 1 April- 9 June 2024. Camper places may fill earlier.
