Thank you for your wonderful support of our 10th Anniversary Celebrations last weekend. It was terrific to see so many people gather to celebrate our community. At the worship service on Sunday, Pastor Greg Vangsness told a story about how members of the Alberton Lutheran Parish used to come on-site before the school was built and stand surrounded by the bush and pray for the future of the school. What a great story of our community’s faithfulness. But most importantly it shows us that God has shown us his faithfulness in the past, right now in the present and that we can take trust in that faithfulness into the future. We know who we are and whose we are. We are the Lord’s (Romans 14:8).

Our Year 12 students were deep in discussion with a variety of industry experts at our "Launch Your Career" afternoon on 28th July. It was great to see such a wonderful exchange of information and innovative ideas for future career pathways!

We also welcome Stacey Martin to the role of Year 7-12 Pathways Coordinator!

Year 7 Camp was a big success with ziplining and catapult construction leading the way! After a brief stop for morning tea at Tickle Park, our campers arrived at Luther Heights to a beautiful view of the ocean or the bush from their dormitories. They settled in, had a delicious lunch, and then split into groups to take on the challenge of the zipline and the catapult quest. After flying down the mountain and getting drenched by wet sponges at the catapult, students had a ball playing team games. Miss Hoff popped in for a visit and was very impressed with their first-day enthusiasm!

Day 2 started with team challenges, crate climbs, and beach games! 

The students faced both physical and mental obstacles as they worked together to guide their team across bridges, rope swings, balance boards, low rope courses, and memory puzzles. It was great to see the students develop their leadership and listening skills, encouraging one another and contributing their ideas. After a delicious lunch, they enjoyed an afternoon of beach games, exploring nature, and spending time with friends.

Did you know that it was hot and sunny in Tokyo when its freezing cold here?  LORDS Elective Japanese students found this out when they joined in several Zoom sessions with students from Kokushikan High School during July. The students introduced themselves and chatted in both Japanese and English, connecting over photographs of pets school life hobbies, and their school lunches. The Year 8/9 LORDS students tested the Kokushikan students on their knowledge of Australian culture while the Year 7C LORDS students were quizzed about Japanese food. The LORDS students were surprised to learn that the Kokushikan students are currently on summer vacation but still go into school to study and take part in extra classes. 

They were also shocked that the Japanese students had not heard of Harry Styles! 

Four of our young women attended the 'Emerging Leaders Conference' at Southern Cross University. Our students were inspired by the career stories of female entrepreneurs spanning different industries.  Students take home message was: 'If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough'. 

Year 4 are having a great time at Numinbah Valley Environmental Centre. We have been bush walking, creating artworks, interacting with animals, and completing challenges. And that's only Day One! 

Here we are, in the blink of an eye, Prep have celebrated their first 100 days! Last week our newest school students created celebratory projects and gathered together to share their journey so far. Congratulations Preps!

Lots of toasty warm woolly jumpers were on parade on Friday 29th July to support the Year 3 St Vinnies Winter Appeal. Thanks to everyone who donated items!

On Monday we had Vinnies collect all the donations. They were blown away by the sheer volume of hygiene products that our community donated. A huge shout out to our amazing LORDS community for digging deep. We know that these hygiene packs are going to make a real difference in the lives of those doing it tough. Well done to our fabulous Year 3 students & staff for running this awesome initiative. Go Team LORDS!

So much fun in Year 2 on 28th July with an amazing award-winning performance by our staff of The Three Little Pigs Meet Red Riding Hood. Our sinister character, the wolf, was played by none other than our esteemed Principal, Ms Jodie Hoff. What a sterling performance she gave! We had some suitably terrified little pigs played by Mrs Kellie Hardke, Mrs Carrie Nair and Mrs Rebecca Downes. It was Little Red Riding Hood who stole the show, as Miss Paula Humphrey managed to convince us that Red is not a meek and mild character at all! Mrs Emma Lawrence provided a dramatic narration that had our students hanging on every word. Well done to the cast! The Year 2's enjoyed every minute!

In late July, four brave students competed at the inaugural Interschool Spelling Bee held at Saint Stephen’s. What a nerve-racking, intense, and exciting night. We are very proud of Dawson S, Oscar W, Gemma A, and Avani K for representing LORDS with pride. A massive congratulations to Gemma A for being crowned the winner of the Year 5 competition and also to Oscar W who was runner-up for the Year 4 competition. You are all superstars.

Year 1 recently enjoyed a fun-filled day participating in The Living World program at Paradise Country. Students developed their knowledge and understanding of living things. Students interacted with a variety of Australian native wildlife, including koalas, snakes, dingos, Tasmanian devils, and kangaroos. They identified the features and habitats of living things and learned about the difference between Australian native and Australian farm animals. 

Students engaged in demonstrations about how animal and plant products are used in different ways. They got to sample homemade damper from the campfire and watch how billy tea is made. Students learned that the snake’s tail looks like the tip of a worm to trick predators and that a koala’s newborn joey is the size of a thumb. So wonderful to see our students engaging in authentic learning outside the classroom.

On Tuesday 2nd August, 29 of our athletes represented LORDS at the Pacific District Athletics Carnival at QSAC in Brisbane. Students were fantastic on the day and represented our school with pride. Students who finished in the top 4 qualified for Regionals and we have a few to celebrate.

Congrats to: Amity M, Hayley W, Tyson S, Kolbe E, Nathan C, Harper B, and Frank O who will all go on to Regionals at Runaway Bay in early September!

Well done to our Year 11/12 Volleyball team for competing at the Senior Schools Cup this past weekend against schools from all over QLD. Although they did not get the results they wanted, they were a great group of boys who didn't give up and were a lot of fun to be around. They were even getting comments from opposing coaches on their commitment and character. They did our school proud. Many thanks to Chappy Jeremy who has worked as coach for this team for most of this year. He has helped them improve and grow both individually and as a team. Thanks Jeremy.

Last Friday 3 teams that had progressed from the regional futsal tournament participated in the Champions of Champions event in Brisbane. The teams progressed to this day through either winning or coming Runner’s Up at an event on the Gold Coast in May.

The boys 8’s, 9’s, and 11’s team played some really high-quality opposition and performed very well. The 9’s and 11’s team finished 3rd in the group stage while the 8’s team lost the Grand Final in extra time going down 4-3. It was a great day for our Futsal Champions and it shows that LORDS is matching it with teams from all over South East Queensland.

Our Thanksgiving Service was a terrific way to end our weekend of celebration for our 10th Anniversary. We were reminded of God’s faithfulness to us and the faithfulness of the founders of LORDS. Thanks to the staff and students who contributed to our service and lovely morning tea. 

What a wonderful way to celebrate our 10th Anniversary on Saturday with the LORDS Big Birthday Party. The rain held off and we were able to enjoy the day together. Party games, great live entertainment, face painting, pony rides, esports, market stalls, and great food trucks were all part of an afternoon of fun and games. 

Thank you to FOLS (Friend of LORDS), Councillor Mark Hammel, Stuart Robert MP, and many others for supporting this day. Thanks also to all the staff, students, and families for volunteering and ensuring the day was such a success.
